Detaching xyz

Hi, noob question, can you detach xyz in BP ?
Or you can only in MP?

A better question would be "Can you activate [Insert monster's name here] effect in the BP?"

For example, Leviathan Dragon is an Ignition effect that can only be activated in the Main Phase.

However Laggia is a Quick Effect that can be activated in any Phase, so long as the conditions are correct.

Quick Effects:

*Effects can chain to another effect (Laggia, Dolkka, etc.).

*Effects say "This effect can be activated during either player's turn" or something like that (Sacred Omega, etc.)

Xyz monster effects are just like any other monster effect. They fit into 3 categories of activation and have costs attached to it. The fact that it's the same cost for most of them doesn't mean they're all the same type of effect.

It can be activated in the battle phase, but not during the damage step.

For example :

You attack the enemy when you have Sacred Omega and he activates Mirror Force or D-Prison, you can chain to make Sacred monsters unaffected by them since they activate at attack declaration and Omega can activate it's effect then.

However, a card like Shrink can activate in the damage step. So if you attack and the opp responds using Shrink on your monstrer, you can't chain to make Omega or any other Sacred unaffected by Shrink.
