Solved Catapult Turtle

"You can Tribute 1 monster to inflict damage to your opponent equal to half of its ATK."

Since it doesn't specify a location, can I tribute cards from my hand for catapult turtle?

In other words: If a card doesn't specify that the monster has to be on the field, can I tribute cards from my hand to activate effects

You should read the rulebook, ver.8, page 49:

"Tributing is sending a monster you control to the Graveyard."

Tribute 1 monster on your side of the field. Inflict damage equal to half of the Tributed monster's ATK to your opponent's Life Points.

So you can not tribute monster from your hand by Catapult's effect Very Happy
