Analysis of the Dominant Decks Empty Analysis of the Dominant Decks

Post  Roxzen 2012-02-18, 16:17

I'm thinking of doing an in-depth analysis on dominant and top decks, and how long do they last before being neutered by the banlist. However, my competitive YGO starts at 2007, and I only know about metagame around Tele-Dad era, so my knowledge on top decks isn't complete.

I'm compelled to do this after I stated that most dominant deck stays for at least 1 format before being hit. Yet I only repeat what everyone else was saying. After a brief discussion with BB and ensane, I figured, why not find it for myself?

But it'll be difficult when the Historic Forbidden/Limited Chart is your only source of data, and it is missing a few cards (assuming so, since Smoke Signal wasn't listed). So I'd like the help of the community if possible.

I'm making a list of dominant decks based on the chart (since they'll be hit if they're dominant). Though I realize deck may lose it's dominant status due to cards legality changing (in case of T.G. Stun vs Heavy Storm+3 MST)

From what I remembered, dominant decks are (or were);

Agent
Blackwing
Cat Synchro
Chaos
Chimeratech OTK
Dark Armed Return
Dark World
Diamond Dude Turbo
Frogs
Goat Control
Gladiator Beast
Gravekeeper
Infernities
Inzektor
Lightsworn
Machina Gadget
Magical Blast FTK
Perfect Circle Monarch
Perfect Herald
Plant Synchro/Synchrocentric
T.G. Stun
Tele-DaD
Troop Dupe Scoop
Twilight
Wind-Up
X-Sabers
Zombies

I'm sure I'm missing a lot, and few might overlap. Any help is appreciated. Smile

Dark Armed Return...? How in gods name do you forget Dark Armed Return? It caused a mid format banlist change!

Something to do with Makurya(sp?) and some hokey Dark Magician of Chaos loop.

Although I'm not sure if those were just loops or actual decks.

Surprised

I assumed it the same as Tele-DaD. My apologies.

Exchange of Spirit FTK then? Dunno if DMoC burn (if I'm not wrong, it's DMoC + D Fusion + Spell Economics + Mass Driver right?) would fit. 4 card combo don't dominate, or I'm missing something.

I might be wrong, but I think teh first dominating deck was Exchange FTK, which is why Exchange of teh Spirit was banned originally. I could be wrong but I think that was the first card ever banned, but I could be mistaken.

Also Dark Armed Return was prior to Synchros. When it got crippled, Gladiator Beasts dominated again, then synchros came out and Tele-DAD came about.

Exchange of the Spirit wasn't banned on the very first list with forbidden cards :
