Just had another guy claim it's "totally fine to banish face-down because the card doesn't say you can't". Is there any kind of definitive ruling that can be linked to or used to deal with this?

It is face up unless stated otherwise, pretty sure

i dont think youll find a ruling because removing face up its the default position a card is removed


same as special summoning a monster the only cards able to SS face down are the ones stating you can on its text

Unless specified cards that banish/send top card/etc from the deck do so faceup,so gold sarc banishes faceup.

Yes, only cards like Different Dimension Capsule banishes face-down.

I play Gold Sarcophagus, so I win the Duel. It doesn't say I don't.
