Ryko v. Solemn warning Empty Ryko v. Solemn warning

The official ruling for ryko reads

You must send 3 cards from the top of your Deck to your Graveyard even if you do not destroy a card with "Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter's" effect.[1]

does that mean that I still mill even if my Ryko is hit by solemn warning?

No because Ryko's milling is part of his effect. It's not a cost. Its text reads "Send the top 3 cards" If it said "Send the top 3 cards from your deck to your graveyard TO destroy a card" then it would be a cost, but it is not.

Wouldn't warning negate the flip? If so, I think not. I could easily be wrong. I don't know much about Ryko and I've never seen him at my locals...

If Warning Negates Ryko's Flip Summon then Ryko's entire Flip effect will not resolve (this is a single effect). No cards will be sent from the top of your Deck to your Graveyard.

More like Ryko's effect never activate.

No card ever choosen, if your opponent ask the target for ryko's effect, he can no longer negate the flip-summon.

If you jumped the gun by selecting the target, then it is your fault.

All counter traps that negate summons never let the card hit the field meaning an effect cant be activated anyway.

Gorz' post above has exactly one mistake - it specifies Counter Traps.

The proliferation of Summon-Negating effects to other kinds of cards makes that specification inaccurate.

A monster whose Summon is negated has not reached the field, even if it was on-field before the Summon attempt (re: Flip Summoning being negated, especially in regards to negating Sangan's Flip Summon.)

A good way of understanding this is as follows - take a look at the card "Forced Back."

Players at times think that a monster is in your hand until its Summon is performed.

That's incorrect.

A monster in your hand stops being in your hand the moment you declare your attempt to Summon it. (Otherwise, Forced Back would be trying to return a card to your hand that's already in your hand, making all that handreturn text unnecessary - Forced Back's reprints haven't removed that text.)

Likewise, a Set monster you control stops being on the field the moment you declare your attempt to Flip Summon it, and does not return to the field until the Summon is performed. (This is why a Sangan whose Flip Summon is negated will not activate.)

Think about it like this: the moment you declare the Summon, the monster enters a portal to some undescribed part of the game. Call it Limbo.

An effect that negates a Summon affects a monster while it's in "Limbo", before it takes the other portal leading to the field. Forced Back forces it back through the first portal; Solemn Judgment just plain kills it.
