Gender confused
is there a change that a gender display could be displayed when we post something. so people don't get confused when they post somthing.
im kind of getting annoyed at myself for saying a guy was a girl and vise versa
like placing it right under the user name or something

Re: Gender confused
Gender is displayed in your profile, but most people don't visit others profiles much/at all. The only way you can tell as of now is if someone says they are a guy/girl, picture thread, or you could guess by the avatar (which is wrong, lots of guys have girls as avatars). I see your dilemma, most people assume people on the internet are guys and you want something to tell people that you are in fact a girl. Gender icons could cause some small problems though, but only with ignorant people who judge by gender. I like the idea because it makes the poster seem a bit more human.
Re: Gender confused
I think it's a good idea. I used to be very active on a gaming community forum and they did the same thing. It just makes it easier to address the person with the right moniker that he or she deserves to be addressed by.

Re: Gender confused
People can lie about their gender when they sign up anyway. I wouldn't worry about it, it's really not a big deal, unless somebody thinks it is, but that's just them.
I wouldn't really care nor worry about what the gender is (or might be) since this isn't some dating site or that a site where you would meet up with someone in real life eventually.
Heck, they could even give you a picture shot of a beautiful pretty looking feminine face, but they could be a guy biologically, and because you don't really know for sure what they have "down there", they could be a transgendered person if ya know what I mean?

That just brought to mind that joke about MMORPG (Most Males Online Role Play Girls), made me laugh.whysoserious wrote:People can lie about their gender when they sign up anyway. I wouldn't worry about it, it's really not a big deal, unless somebody thinks it is, but that's just them.

But I don't see why they would lie about it if it offers no gain. But I agree it's not a big deal but it's just nice to get a better idea of the person you're talking to when your reply to a post of theirs.

If they do get harassed or pestered they should contact a staff member. Depending on the severity of the harassment they will be dealt with accordingly.KaousFaustXIII wrote:Red_Chaos wrote:KaousFaustXIII wrote:NO!

Anyways, I really support the fact that genders should be on the front page, but the only concern is that even guests will be able to tell a person's gender. Will it bring people in because they got to know that a certain someone here was a girl? Or will it send them away because someone they thought was a girl turned out as a boy.

Re: Gender confused
I have to not support this. Some people (For one my gf) doesnt like people knowing their gender, so there should be a 'prefer not to say' option in gender. unless that is implimented then i wouldnt support this

There's an option for that, don't worry. You just don't select either genders, but the downside is if you do, the process itself is irreversible.

Sounds a lot better in my opinion. I don't suppose anybody would pay attention to that.

Re: Gender confused
Having an option to display gender (should not be required) would make it so that others don't use incorrect pronouns when referring to you. I'll give you a hint when dealing with me, my gender is the opposite of the character in my avatar.

Re: Gender confused
Even avatars can be ambiguous though. Have you not spotted the confusion merely caused by users having pony pics?
In any case, I support this idea. It's a forum standard feature that I have no issues with, assuming "Male", "Female" and "Rather not say" are all options.

Geez. That's a hard choice. If they've been on DN since before the rating reset and their rating is low as a result, I wouldn't care about their rating, because chances are they could've been really high and I'd want to challenge them. On the other hand, they could be really high-ranked AFTER the reset and they've been on their since before the reset and that'd make me want to duel them more. Then on the side of knowing a gender, it would get rid of that akwardness of calling someone by the wrong gender.
............................
I choose knowledge of gender.
Really hate that akward feeling then apologizing for who knows how long.

Re: Gender confused
If they do add a gender showing option, I want there to be an option to not reveal my gender. I'm happier not letting everyone I know and don't know not knowing my gender. All too often gender stereotypes come into play, even if they don't mean to do so, if they know your gender.

I would like a male symbol by me. I generally like putting VG girls in my sig or avatar and I don't want people getting confused.
Re: Gender confused
O, come now, Van. Has that ever even happened to you?vantagesp wrote:I would like a male symbol by me. I generally like putting VG girls in my sig or avatar and I don't want people getting confused.
I REALLY do not see this as much of a priority. I would not say no to this, but I would not support it, either.

Re: Gender confused
Uhmm, I'd have to say no. Why? Because didn't girls use to complain about guys asking to be their GFs and that stuff? Also, I remember when I joined, there was that gender thing under your avatar. It's removed now into your profile.
