Question on Smashing Ground

Okay, this happened to me a couple days ago....

Opponent has Red-eyes Darkness Metal dragon on the field.

I have 4 scapegoat tokens and a face down giant germ.

Opponent plays Smashing ground.

Does that target my tokens or his Red-Eyes?

Okay, for one thing, Smashing Ground doesn't target. And I want you to read this very carefully:

Destroy the face-up monster your opponent controls with the highest DEF. (If it's a tie, you get to choose.)

And now tell me why you thought your opponent's Smashing Ground would destroy their own monster. In short; it destroys one of your tokens.

I'm not sure why I thought that. It was an off day for me. But thanks for refreshing me on the card. Won't happen again. ^_^
