TBH, this is unbroken ground.
The closest I've ever seen is in TF6, which allows GBs to Tag Fusion When the named one is a face-up S/T, through a few cards, mostly Anime only, but only because they say the named cards need to be returned, not the named monsters.

What I'm trying to do...

Fish lancer
You can target any number of your banished Fish, Sea Serpent, and Aqua-Type monsters; equip them to this card.

use this to bring back Gem-Knight Sapph and Gem-Knight Iolite from the banish...

Then fuse them from the equip zone.

Those are equip spell, not monsters.
Polymerization specifically states you need to send Monsters.

Aren't they still monsters though? that are equipped to sea lancer? Union style?

Cause Lancer doesn't say they are treated as spells or nothing, it just says equip em to this card...

You gave me an idea for a fusion archetype. Basically monsters that say "This card is still treated as a monster while equipped". And the monsters will equip directly from the hand or grave like Inzektors.

Any monsters in S/T Zone is not monsters anymore, unless it states otherwise.

That usually they have text "became an equip spell" but I after look again at mermaid archer

    Mermaid archer (ATK/DEF 1200/200)
    Level 3 | WATER | Sea Serpent
"Once per turn, you can equip 1 Level 3 or lower monster you control to this card. If you do, this card gains 800 ATK. If this card would be destroyed, you can destroy the equipped monster instead. (You can only equip 1 monster at a time to this card.)"

    And

    Big Wave Small Wave
Destroy all face-up WATER monsters on your side of the field. Then you can Special Summon WATER monsters from your hand, up to the same number of monsters destroyed by this effect.

If mermaid archer equip another mermaid archer,
the equipped mermaid archer doesn't count when Big Wave Small Wave resolves... since it, (supposed) treated as equip spell card.

And yeah Gem-Knight Fusion states need to send monster, not card
Send, from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard, the Fusion Material Monsters that are listed on a "Gem-Knight" Fusion Monster Card, then Special Summon that Fusion Monster from the Extra Deck. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.) If this card is in the Graveyard: You can banish 1 "Gem-Knight" monster from your Graveyard; add this card to your hand.

I'm not using Gem-Knight fusion, I'm using Super-Poly.... but I guess it doesn't make a difference....

Shame, I had a nice idea to go with this.
