Forum Chatbox and Portal

Hello all,

I'd like to introduce to you the portal to our forum. Yes, it looks very ugly at the moment I am aware of that. It is currently under construction. However, for now you will all be able to chat in the Chatango chat found there.

All you have to do is register to get a permanent name or you can simply use a guest name to chat. Registration is not required to use the chatbox. Please let us know if you guys would like to see something on the portal that would make things easier to navigate for you. For now the portal is under construction, and will remain that way until some time tomorrow when I get time to work on it.

PS. You can also use the Forumotion chatbox which can be found at the very bottom of the index. All you have to do is scroll down until you see Chatbox. It will say who is on it and it will have a link to join the chat. You must be a registered DN member to participate in that chat though.

We need a real coded chatbox on our forum on our main page so when people log on they see it and can feel free to join the conversation rather than just finding out there's one 4 weeks later on another tab.

I think the use of a chat would be perfect for the website. The site could use its own IRC network via to communicate.

I definitely agree. IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is the direction you guys want to go. Chatango and chatboxes don't really have any structure.

If you introduce a chatroom for the network, it creates a new venue that allows users to socialize. The forums serve its own purpose, but there's a lot better options if users wish to chat freely.

There are many web clients out there, Mibbit being one of the most popular. There's also a bunch of others that I can list later.

I think a chat environment would be very successful.

Chatboxes are nice, but sometimes they move too fast for people to see what's going on.
IRC would open up a whole new possibility for the people and with the customization that IRC clients offer, even the ones like mibbit I really don't see a reason not to have an IRC.
You just have to make sure that it's something everyone wants. From what I see, the chatbox seems to be booming and the IRC would aswell.
Wouldn't it also make it a bit easier to find duels?
I know I'm personally looking forward to that.

I also have a great idea for a clan name and everything!
Each clan could have their own clanroom and etc. OOOO If you guys get IRC, I can't wait!

An IRC network would be good for helpdesk functions, user support, not to mention it'd be good for organizing duel tournaments. Might be worth considering.

Chatango is just a stepping stone to a valid functioning chatroom. It's obvious that it's not attracting as many users as it was intended to do. Using an applet, such as mibbit, would quickly draw in users to produce a healthy chatroom environment.

The layout of mibbit far exceeds the basic designs of chatango and it would be very simple to install. I believe it would greatly benefit the site phenomenally.

Also, when I tried visiting the chatango thing, it wasn't online. IRC is more reliable, imho.

Xat.coms chat has annoying sounds, the look of it looks unprofessional and is all around icky, imo.
Also i dont think that you would want to drive traffic away from your own website to a different one just for a chat.
IRC can be integrated into your own website without driving traffic away.
IRC definitely trumps xat
