Priority of Lyla
I was dueling someone who normal summoned Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, and i activated Bottomless Trap Hole, then he claimed he could use Lyla's eff to destroy one of my other trap cards.
i let it slide because he claimed he had priority during his turn. i didn't want to argue that much, but could he have really done that?

Well, Lyla will activate, but since it cannot switch to defense because it was removed from the field it will not destroy any card.

Re: Priority of Lyla
usually, it's best to ask if he wishes to use priority before responding to a summon

@Pox even with Prio, Lyla cant destroy a backrow if bottomlessed on summon.

Re: Priority of Lyla
Okay. First off, cards don't have priority, players do. So he does have priority to activate the effect as chain link 1, but as others have said, Lyla's effect has to change her position for backrow to be destroyed, and since she would not be on the field, the effect doesn't resolve.

Re: Priority of Lyla
@void, yes but if he had asked, his opponent might have picked bottomless
more of a playing suggestion than a ruling one (plus the rule IS to ask the turn player for a response)
