tribute setting with fires of doomsday tokens
So I was duelling this one guy, and I used Fires of Doomsday, summoning 2 tokens.
After I used Cards from the Beyond, I tributed the tokens and set Darklord Asmodeus.
My opponent claims that I can't use the tokens as tribute on the same turn I used it, because that would apparently count as a Summon.
I patiently told him that as proven by Torrential Tribute, the word Summon doesnt encompass Setting.
He wouldn't listen, and he said that for Ojama Trio, its been ruled that those tokens cant be used as tribute for setting, and that it somehow proved me wrong.
I tried to tell him that my combo works in the OCG, and that since there isn't a TCG-exclusive ruling that states otherwise, it applies for the TCG as well.
That was when DN decided to be a troll and I oh-so-conveniently "Lost Connection!", making me look like the biggest ragequitter in ths history of children's card games.
My question is, I was correct in this ruling, right?
If not, it would bring my "Cards Beyond Turbo Summon" deck down quite a bit.

You can indeed Set even when you activate Fire of Doomsday.
Summoning and Setting are two different things, they both count as your 1 monster per turn, but for situations like this, Fire of Doomsday only stops "Summons"

you are correct. i think the logic is 'summoning' in terms of fires of doomsday applies to normal summoning/special/flip as you said. for ojama trio on the other hand it says "tribute summon" which applies to both tributing to set and summoning it face up.

Monster that is being set is not being summoned so yes you can do that...

Re: tribute setting with fires of doomsday tokens
Yeaaaa! Now I can put the 3 cards from the beyond that are collecting dust to good use!
...oh wait, I don't even have fires of doomsday in real life. dammit.
Anyway, thank you, Badass_Bunny, guylaroche5, and Emolga 0 for confirming the ruling.
Would somebody close this topic please?
PS: My next duel was with a guy who complained about the exact same thing, to which I gave him a link to this website. Not only did he not listen, but he had the "oh-im-actually-a-judge-so-i-dont-have-to-listen-to-you-even-though-i-have-no-evidence-to-the-contrary" attitude. He then proceeded to try to negate my dark bribe with a field spell effect, and ragequitted when i told him that bribe doesnt negate costs.
Hell, either the guy was just some lowlife poser, or judge-hiring standards have hit an all-time low.

That is not correct. And as far as I know and have researched, Ojama Trio has never been ruled like that. The cards must specifically say that "Tribute Summon or Set", just like Precious Cards from Beyond.

well i just based that on the logic that where i play it's ruled that you can't use the ojama tokens to tribute set, i've seen this confirmed too on various other sites but it's probably just a special case.
