Right well the effect is simple
FLIP: Target 1 face-up card your opponent controls; return it to the hand.

But what i keep finding is every now again i duel someone they attack it with a weaker monster and i send it back to the hand and take no damage but does he still take damage from his attack?

Flip Effects always activate AFTER Damage Calculation, so your opponent still takes damage from the difference between the DEF of the Defense Position monster and the ATK of the attacking monster.

I thought so, some people just think they're pro when they aren't -.-
