Morphtronic Radion Set then flipped.

Hi. This has been bugging me for a while, and how the Battle Phase goes can be kind of confusing sometimes.

Here's my question. Morphtronic Radion (1000 ATK/900 DEF) is set face down. He has a Continuous effect that increases the DEF of all Morphtronics (and thus himself) by 1000 when he is in DEF position. Does his effect kick in the moment he is flipped face up from an attacking monster, or is he destroyed when attacked by a monster with 950 or more ATK?

Radion's continuous eff activates the moment he's in face-up defense position, including when flipped face-up by an attack.

Just in the same way a set Spirit Reaper is not destroyed by battle even when attacked face down, Radion will "be applied" (not activate) in time.

My bad, you're right.

Continuous effects don't "activate". If that was the case, Raidon could be Divine Wrath'd when flipped and that's not the case.

Poor wording on my behalf.

Think Grand Mole effect active when it attacked facedown

or catastor attacked facwdown

Those are totally different cases from this; they don't work because they DO activate.

Catastor effecet doesn't work if it's attacked face-down or if it attacks a face-down monster.

Well, to wrap this up:
Continuous effects are applied, not activated.
Continuous effects are applied the moment the monster hits the field.
During battle, monsters are flipped before damage calculation.
-> Radion's effect will apply to himself when attacked face-down.

Lock and move on.

Sorry to nitpick but this is not necessarily true.
Continuous effects such as that of "Giant Kozaky" or "Reptillianne Servent" are only applied after the damage calculation is conducted, if they happen to survive the battle, even though they become face-up on the field way sooner than that.

Generally monster are needed to survive to activate their effect
(Not confuse it with FLIP effect monster or flip)

From now on, I can surprise people with a 1900 DEF monster, given that he survives, of course xD.

that is only applied for monster with trigger effect that need to be triggered while face-up on the field.
