a size limit for sigs

im starting to find some huge sigs



if this goes one well have 2000x150 sigs everywhere

I was kind of thinking the same thing (some are huge, mine could actually be a tad smaller IMO). But there is actually a character limit in place. I am sure there is a size limit, but it is big.

It annoys me too. I make a simple 450x150 (sometimes 380x120) sig, and maybe some text near it, but that's it. Having to scroll through a sig the size of 3 posts is annoying.

I can do this.

I have not noticed big sigs but then again I'm mostly patrolling support sections.

If there are multiple users with large sigs i can make the forum remove sigs that are to big of size and not permit to display any that are too big.

EDIT: 500x300 will probably be the limit i set.

It shouldn't be too hard. The admin control panel might have an option for it in there. If not, a php script is easily coded.

Edit: I've another idea. You could add spoiler tags to toggle what's inside of it when you click. Or just surround the signature area with a simple html div:

The control panel doesn't allow such an option but its easily coded into the CSS

Javascript can fix this too, as well as give you more dynamic options. But then again, there are jerks who disable javascript on their browsers.

CSS would be so much easier though. Why mess with javascript when you can just use CSS? I see your point though, javascript is more powerful.

A size limit in sigs would be a fine add.

Yeah, I even supplied some css in my previous post. Thing about javascript though, it can take advantage of jquery, and make it even more easily coded with moaaaar functionality.

I agree,, needs to limit those sigs.
just hurt my eyes when seein a "one screen" sig...

supporting this imo, I've seen several people with a sig with the size of 3 screens O.O.

That seems about right, but maybe 500 X 400. I may make mine a bit smaller.

This: The maximum size of your custom image is 401 by 301 pixels or 400.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

Actually, this was on another forum I used to be on. They usually said "if your sig cannot fit in this box, then you cannot use it".



Perhaps that would help the users who don't know how to size things properly? It's easy to compare by just using Paint or Photoshop, any of those and you'd be able to see if your sig can fit in that box. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if anyone would appreciate the size limit on it though, so no need to take this raptor's advice/suggestion. x.x;

That is pretty small IMO.

The thing was, it kept the forum in control. Everybody breaks pages with gigantic sigs, and makes loading times unreasonably longer than they should be.

It's actually all you need for a sig. We aren't looking for a players sig to be a story book, just somewhere they can post a quote or two, or a picture that is to their liking.

That is true. I just think 200 is too small. 300 is perfect.

From where I got that from, that applied to banners. If you tried having more than one banner (who didn't try it?), it was usually too large and mods gave that user about 1 week before they forcibly delete the sig.

I think My Sig is probably the biggest one here and still doesn't take much space at all
