crystal beast ruling

A guy gave me deemed me as an A.S.S. for this so I'm getting a ruling for future reference. if a cb is set face down on the field, and is attacked and destroyed, it can go to my s/t zone right? the guy said it had to go to the grave, I told him it it didn't say it had to be face-up.

If it is destroyed by battle (not by effect), it is faced up before the destruction, so you are able to choose if it's going to the S/T zone, or to the Graveyard.

While this is correct it should be mentioned that if the CB is destroyed while it is facedown, like with Dark Hole, you won't be able to put it in the S/T Zone.

That's right, that's why I mentioned that not by effect, but battle. Since when an effect destroys, it doesn't flipping the monster face-up, so its effect cannot be activated.
