monster reborn vs negations

i was playing with my opponent and i started to argue about this:

- i activated monster reborn
- he/she activated the eff of shi en
- i activated dolkka eff and negated shi en
- i used monster reborn to special summon shi en from the graveyard

my opponent said that i cant because i activated monster reborn BEFORE shi en eff, but chain between dolkka and shi en resolves BEFORE i select a target for monster reborn eff

am i right o my opponent was right?

Reborn selects targets before anything else is done, then priority is passed. In your situation, you'd still revive the selected monster.

EDIT: Read slightly wrong, but it still stands. You target, then stuff happens. Shi En was in the Grave after you targetted, so you can't take Shi En.

your opponent was right because when you activate reborn you choose the target monster from the grave first then shi en eff activates,since u negated it shi en gets destroyed and you SS the monster you targeted first when you activated reborn

when you activate Monster Reborn, first you choose the target, then it comes the chaining.. so you were wrong..

Monster Reborn summons the monster you selected(you select before anything else happened..)

You are absolute wrong!

Monster Reborn targets. That mean you must select its target when you active its effect, before anything can chain to it. After that, you cannot change your target.
