Changing of the guard

Counter trap card.

Activate when your opponent declares an attack.

Return one monster that you control to your hand and special summon a different monster in its place. Your opponent's monster must attack the special summoned monster.

This idea will never take off.....

true... but the card effect could be changed slightly though. It can always be improved.

Doesn't really need to be a counter trap, unless you REALLY want to avoid bottomless trap hole. Solemn Warning can still hit it.

In order for it not to BREAK TEH GAMEZ:
Needs a level limit, or a type specificity of some kind, or its just too broken for play.
i.e. Level four or lower
or fiend type monster.

But really, we already have this in "A Hero Emerges" (previously mentioned) and "Beast Soul Swap". Beast soul swap, is less situational though in a dedicated deck.

i agree with helpohmer but still the card could be solemn warninged just as easy and id play solemn warning over bottomless anyday
