Stardust Dragon vs Inzektor Hornet

i duel a guy using inzektor deck... and i have stardust dragon on the field... he uses inzektor hornet to destroy my stardust then i activate stardust effect to negate it.... then he said i can't negate hornet effect... i insist that stardust can... and he quit... first time i encounter a situation like this... i search stardust ruling and hornet ruling but it doesnt say anything about this... does my opponent right? or i am right...

Stardust Dragon can negate Inzektor Hornet's effect.

Sending Hornet to the grave is the cost, therefore it isn't on the field when the effect resolves. Stardust Dragon CAN chain to the effect, but Inzecter Hornet is already in the grave so it doesn't destroy Inzecter Hornet but it does negate it's destruction effect. If Stardust Dragon chains to Inzecter Hornet, the effects of Inzecter Damsel and Centibeet still activate, right?
