Solved Infernity Beetle v. Debunk

Post  Unorthodoxical-Princ 2011-11-23, 22:59

Okay, I think I got this logic right. So, becausae beetle has to tribute itself in order to activate it's effect, I can debunk it right? The mod said that I can't :/. I thought that did not make sense, because both Beetle and Rai-Oh can get around cards like Skill Drain. By that logic if those cards activated on the field, then they would've been negated by Skill Drain, but they're not, thus Beetle can be negated by Debunk right?

Nope! Skill Drain negates effects that resolve on the field. Debunk negates effects that activate in the hand or Graveyard. Rai-Oh and Beetle activate on the field, but resolve in the Graveyard. They get around both.

Skill Drain only cares if the monster that activated on the field is still face-up on the field during resolution, if it is, then it will be negated.

skill drain does not stop / prevent activation

Since TKRO isnt on field when the effect resolve... skill drain cannt negate that unlike effect veiler which affect targetted monster till end phase

The problem about where the effect resolves is the reason why I can't trust most of DN moderators (not in the forum). They just don't know about this and always thought effect resolves at the place the monster goes to.

Effect resolves where it activated.

Skill Drain only negates the effects of "Face Up Monsters". Since Rai Oh is not a "Face Up Monster" while resolving, it's effect does not get negated by skill drain.

I always find it easier to say "Rai-Oh works the same way Stardust does" and then link to Stardust's ruling stating it passes Skill Drain since it resolves off the field.

Wait, but how is it possible that something resolves where it is not? Cost is paid, then effect activates, right? So, with Stardust, you pay your cost (tribute), acti....

Oh. You activate in the graveyard.....

Herping your derp never was so complicated in a card game.... sigh.

1) Effects always resolve at the same place you active them. Rai-oh, Stardust, etc. active and resolve their effect on the field, even if their CARDs is not there anymore.

2) Skill Drain can only negate monster effect if that monster'S CARD still face-up on the field at its resolution.

You active effect AND pay cost. They happen at the same time. Not pay cost THEN active.

I am saddened by the fact your username is green...

Now people just remember once a judge answers a question unless you are positive he is mistaken than there is no reason what-so-ever to repeat something that has been said already.
