Activate only when an opponent's monster declares an attack. You select the target of the attack.

my question:

if there is only 1 monster on opponent's side, can i select that monster as the target? also can i select opponent's life points?

Monsters can not attack other monsters on the same side of the field, and can not attack the controller of the monsters life points.

Back to the original question: No, you can't select any of your opponent's monsters as the attack's target in this case, especially not the attacking one.

nor the opp's life points.
