Number 61: Volcasaurus vs. Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
Hello.
The other day on DN, I was playing someone in a very close match.
I was using Rank 5 Xyz Number 61: Volcasaurus to destroy their
Trisula, then I would attack with another monster and win. However,
their field was empty and they played Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
which led to my defeat next turn.
So here is my question.
Number 61: Volcasaurus effect to destroy and damage happens at the same
time, so was my opponent in the right by playing Gorz? I ask because some
similar instances were the opponent takes damage while technicaly still
having a card on the field would prevent Gorz's effect from activating.
For the record, I admitted defeat, since part of me thought it was a legal
move. I just wanted some clarification and peace of mind.
Thnaks in advance to whoever answers.

I don't get it. Why would he not be able to summon gorz?

Oh, wait, you mean gorz was summoned from effect damage? I'm not sure on that

I'm guessing since it got destroyed and the damage happens at the same time the trish is no longer on the field so your opponent could summon gorz
I think

No, Gorz would not be able to summon himself, for Gorz requires you to control no monsters.
Gorz special summons himself in the damage step during damage calculation, sub part 4 of the damage step, your destroyed monster is sent to the grave at sub part 7 of the damage step, so until then, you'll still control the monster. So by the time your monster is sent to the grave, Gorz would've already missed his chance.

No we're talking about the second effect of Gorz, the one that is triggered by Effect Damage
