Barrier Master: Anybody remember this guy? Empty Barrier Master: Anybody remember this guy?

Okay, peeps, this is just a quick little guide/discussion (mainly because I thought it was interesting, and also because this is my first activity on DN Forums in too long...yes, school sucks).

Today, I'll be going over this long-forgotten card:

Barrier Master: Anybody remember this guy? Mei-Kou%2CMasterofBarriersSDSC-EN-C-1E

Okay, just from looking at his effect, you’ll either smile or frown.

Mei-Kou’s effect allows you to Tribute him to destroy 1 active Continuous Spell or Trap. He can get rid of cards like Messenger of Peace, Royal Decree, Call of the Haunted, Wave-Motion Cannon and even Skill Drain. Oh? Yes, you heard me right; Skill.Drain. How, you might ask?

As is the case with Stardust Dragon, Mei-Kou’s effect pierces right through Skill Drain. This is because Skill Drain only negates the resolution of a monster’s Ignition/Trigger effect if the monster is face-up on the field at that time. Once you Tribute Mei-Kou for his own cost, his effect resolves in the Graveyard, where Skill Drain can’t touch it Very Happy Keep that in mind, those of you who didn’t know it: Skill Drain only negates resolutions, not activations.

However, that’s only half of Mei-Kou’s worth; his other half is right up there in the upper-right corner. He’s a LIGHT monster. As we all know, LIGHT is the most supported type in the game after DARK, but there’s a specific group of cards that I’m thinking about: the Chaos cards.

In this new format where Black Luster Soldier: Envoy of the Beginning is again accessible, getting LIGHT and DARK monsters into the Graveyard is pretty important. Mei-Kou’s effect lets you quickly get him into the Graveyard and get rid of an important card on your opponent’s field, setting up a future BLS or Chaos Sorcerer play. In fact, if you Summoned Summoner Monk (snicker) and used his effect to bring out Mei-Kou, that’s a LIGHT and a DARK monster right there. With his decent 1700 ATK body, Mei-Kou may stay out for a while and do some damage and possible get use his effect, and with his rather weak 1600 DEF frame (combined with his effect), Summoner Monk is a target for your opponent to send to the grave.

Well, that’s the good. Onto the bad…

Mei-Kou’s effect, while decent, is rather slow. It not only uses up your Normal Summon for the turn (unless you find some way to SS it, or you need to get that Spell/Trap off the field and don’t care), but it’s also usually a waste of resources. His ATK makes him suffer too; 1700 will usually get run over quite easily by TK Raioh, E-Hero Neos Alius, and even suicided against by Tengu. Even his DEF is very weak.

Well, those are my thoughts: now what do you guys think?
Discuss below; keep it civil, ‘cause nobody loves a flamer but that flamer…and maybe his mother…

Have fun!

Meh. It kinda seems like a suicidal and selective Lyla.

Yeah, but still, this card is outclassed by Lyla in almost every case, since pretty much every deck loves to mill.
